Darwin's Shropshire
For the past eight years this Partnership has championed the cause of celebrating the county's famous son.
We have helped establish a charitable trust - The Darwin Birthplace Society which aims to win public access to Darwin's birthplace in Shrewsbury as well as tell the story of the great man's connection with his home town and county.
Working with national funding agencies and The Darwin Birthplace Society, this Partnership has helped to implement the Darwin Masterplan and celebrations of the bicentenary of Darwin's birth in 2009.
Activities have included assisting in the publication of Darwin books and arranging events for the bicentenary celebrations, whilst pursuing the main objective of creating an Education and Visitors' Centre to celebrate Darwin's life and inspiration in Shropshire.
“The global prominence of Charles Darwin and his legendary work could bring serious economic advantage not only to Shrewsbury but to the rest of Shropshire and the wider region”
John Clayton, Project Director
